Assessment length
Most assessments last between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Before your appointment
Before we meet, my secretary will send you questionnaires and forms to gather background information. These help guide the assessment, but if completing forms feels daunting (as it often does for people with ADHD), please don’t worry. A full and comprehensive assessment can still be carried out.
(See the section How to Get a Diagnosis for further details.)
If you have recently had any tests or previous assessment I would definitely like to receive these well before our assessment.
During the assessment
The assessment is detailed and collaborative. Importantly, I always ensure that there is time towards the end of the session to:
- put your difficulties into context,
- connect the dots between symptoms and experiences, and
- place any diagnosis or difficulties within the unique story of your life.
Planning treatment
We will then discuss treatment options together, taking into account both the best available scientific evidence and, just as importantly, your preferences and choices.
To support this process, I have personally developed a range of psychoeducation tools, slides, and monitoring charts to help with understanding, diagnosis, and ongoing progress.
